Our Heritage

church exterior

congregation
The congregation was established in 1858 as a mission from Halifax. The building was built in 1861 and extensively rebuilt in 1936 after the roof collapsed. It is a simple building befitting its rural setting and has some attractive Art Deco 'Rising Sun' pattern windows dating from the 1930's. At 1000 feet above sea level, it is the highest Unitarian Chapel in Britain.
